He's here!!

I know...you've been waiting days for this! So long story short...(no, really!) :) I'll do it in steps to make it a quick read.

Went to the hospital about 5 am on Wednesday morning

Valary, my sweet neighbor who is also pregnant, came over and slept on the couch until sammy got up--THANK YOU!!! what a favor!

Labored naturally until 11:30 when I got the miracle of the epidural--what a lifesavor!

Water had broken, contractions were strong, I was at a 4 and everything looked good for a VBAC so far.

Then the epidural did it's not so good magic...and slowed down my contractions.

By 6pm my contractions were at almost a dead halt. Not good news for a VBAC because you can't give a VBAC petocin because it creates TOO strong of contractions and could be harmful to the uterine scar from original C-section.

SO--- the doctor came in and gave me my only option...repeat C-section. I cried.

I kept crying. haha. Actually the truth is I was just dissapointed, but whatever. Paco, being the wonderful husband he is, reminded me of all the good things of a C-Section and reassured me that we would do what was best for the baby. He's so good. I think I just had really mentally been so prepared for a VBAC that it was discouraging to have to resort to a repeat C-section. Afterall--I could've just done a C-section and not gone through any of that horrible labor!!

By the way--I have a new respect for women who have gone through labor. Ouch. And I didn't even have to push!

So by 7:20 pm Jacob Thomas Velasco was born and everything went very smoothly. We just got home from the hospital today (saturday) and we're so happy to finally all be together as a family.

Sammy is SOOO excited about his little brother and can't stop looking/touching/playing with him. He loves to point to different parts of Jacob's body and say "tiny" or "chiquito" and then compare it to his body and say "grande" (big, for you non-spanish speakers haha).

More stories later--but that's the rundown for now.

I love being a mom!!!

  1. YYYAAAAYYYYY!!!! I'm so glad he finally made it and that you are both doing well. I was starting to worry because I (along with a hundred other people, I'm sure) have been checking your blog 3 times a day for an update! I'm sorry you had to do a repeat C-section...I know that must have been really disappointing for you. Maybe next time??? I am just grateful he is here and you are still alive!

So you went with Jacob, huh? I love it! I was surprised though, I was expecting Alexander or James. But Jacob is an awesome name, and if my sister hadn't just used it on her baby I would use it on my own! But that's ok, now I have two nephews named Jacob, and that is fabulous. :)

He is absolutely perfect. I can't believe how much he looks like Sammy did when he was brand new! Maybe you can see major differences, but to me they look so similar! That's a good thing, cause Sammy turned out to be a little stud-muffin. Looks like Jacob is on the same track! You guys are good at making babies! :)

Congratulations to all 3 of you (but especially you, Christiney!) Love you all so much!
