I have now entered into the world of people who have locked their keys AND their children in the car...at the same time!
I thought I was being a nice mom and after the kids' doctor appointment, we went to the library next door. To my sad surprise, this particular library didn't open until 2 pm (which I found totally annoying...but that's another story). So we dooked around in the community center playing with what toys and entertainment we found. Finally it was time to go...so I got both kids all strapped in...but Sammy had been playing in the front seat w/the door locks while I put Jacob in the car. I thought I had unlocked it...but apparently didn't. Anyway, i got sammy safely tucked in his car seat..shut the door..and then saw the keys on the front seat :(
It gets better...just seconds later a police car pulled up next to mine. PERFECT I thought. So I asked them to jimmy my door for me...nope. they don't have the tools. "I've got a cell phone though, can you call someone?" I'm like..uh..who do I call, the cops? sheesh. Anyway, I kept trying Paco's phone but he was in an important lunch meeting....so important that after my 20 calls (literally) he did not answer. (note--we have now established the system that if a strange number or my number shows up 20 times consecutively...it must be an emergency.
Anyway, I left a msg on Paco's cell phone and then the cops were like...well okay see ya later pretty much. So there I was stuck in the parking lot can't move cause my kids are in the car and no cell phone to keep making calls. Finally I asked a little old lady for her cell to call paco again. She turned out to be MUCH more helpful than the silly police officers (who turned out to be "fake" volunteer police in a real police car). So the old lady went to the front desk of the library...they called 311 (the non-emergency number apparently) and within minutes a big huge red firetruck and a red fire ambulance showed up and they jimmyed the lock for me and even gave Sammy a big man fireman sticker--that made his day.
So yeah...please welcome me to the world of locking the keys in. haha
So what in the world are "fake" volunteer police? Isn't impersonating a police officer illegal? And even if they weren't police officers, it seems that any reasonable human being wouldn't just LEAVE. Thank goodness for little old ladies. And the fire department.
ReplyDeleteI once locked my keys in the car (but not the kids luckily) and when the police tried to open it, they broke the lock. So they called a tow truck who were able to open it. So I had to pay the tow truck $25, and then it cost $89 (and took 3 tries taking it in) to fix the door.
