I did it! I finished the race. Here's the scoop:
Friday night I went to bed feeling awful (my new normal) and stayed up thinking about how I wished I could run the next day, but knew I couldn't. Then the next morning I still felt awful and wasn't even sure I would walk the race, maybe I would just wait at the finish line and cheer for Paco. I figured I'd get dressed in my racing gear just in case. Upon arriving at the race i still was sure i was going to walk it. I'll start out running what I can, then just walk the rest. So the race started and within the first 20 seconds almost every single person passed me. It was a weird feeling to see all of them dart right ahead of me so quickly. Anyway--before I knew it I was at the halfway point and hadn't stopped yet to walk. My race adrenalin kicked in and I was able to finish the whole race, slowly and steadily. I finished in 34 minutes with only 3 people behind me. At least i wasn't dead last! hahaha
Then, believe it or not, I ended up placing 3rd in my age group---so I GOT A MEDAL!!! Even though it was my slowest time ever, I felt proud of that medal because I achieved so much more than I had in any other race. I put it all, yet I kept it steady.
So that was my race. It was a good experience and inspiring for myself. :)
You are my hero Christine! I am so proud of you!
