Ever since I got married I have had a newborn interest in emergency preparedness. Now that I have two additional boys to include in that...my interest has piqued even more! This morning I swore I heard an earthquake while I was laying in bed (note--I did say "heard" not "felt" don't ask me what the difference is...all I know is that I heard something weird and realized I'm not as prepared as I want to be).
So...when I opened up my email this morning i found the latest version of Meridian Magazine http://www.ldsmag.com/about/refer.html please check it out if you're interested. It's been a great resource to me in the last week that I've been subscribed to it. Anyway--I found an article of 30 FREE things you can do now to prepare for an emergency; so I started my list of things I need to do to be better prepared. Check out the article at: http://www.ldsmag.com/emergency/090401thirty.html
AND...I found the COOLEST thing! Remember my month of savings I talked about?? She has this SAME idea on her webpage--they call it a "Financial Fast". I LOVE IT!! I was so proud that i had done it on my own before getting the idea from her! :) SO---I pass the challenge on to each of you reading this blog: http://blog.totallyready.com/?p=464
Here are the rules:
1. You will agree to the following guidelines for two weeks.
2. You will keep a journal and record all the items you wanted to purchase but did not.
3. You will eat all meals at home or brown bag at work.
4. You will pay all bills as they come due.
5. You will only purchase food and toiletries at the grocery store, nothing else.
6. If there is something you absolutely need, besides food or medicine, you will barter or trade for it.
I'd be interested to see what you guys learn in doing this. Doing this for one month really has made me look at things so much differently. I recently bought Paco a bike for his birthday and wouldntcha know...I rode the bike to the dollar store last night instead of driving. LOVED IT!
So, that's enough for today.... hopefully that earthquake I heard this morning doesn't come at least for a few more days! haha
