The Master Cleanse

Today is the pre-day for the big event tomorrow...starting "The Master Cleanse". I've decided to track it on here for my purposes and for those of you who have shown interest in doing it yourself sometime, or for those of you who curious as to just how crazy I am! haha

The Pre-Day consisted of a breakfast of eggs and turkey. The rest of the day has just been water, fruits, and vegetables. I'm preparing myself mentally and physically. I had a great workout this morning, and I have been so excited all day long to get this started! I wanted to start yesterday, but didn't have time on Saturday to get all the ingredients I need...so I'm starting late :( (which means I have to end early due to thanksgiving travel). So my fast will last for 7 days instead of 10.

How did I get started on this?

Good question. It all started over a year ago when I was visiting a friend and she was making vegetable soup, but was only going to eat the broth. I found that interesting and began to ask away. She then explained what I now know as "The Master Cleanse" and said that she and her mom both do it about 3-4 times a year. Honestly, as soon as I heard her describe the master cleanse, I knew it was something i wanted to do. It's like it totally made sense to me and seemed natural that we all should do it at least once in our lives! (actually it's recommended to do it 2-3 times per year!)

Anyway, I was pregnant at the time, and obviously couldn't do it--and I knew that because of nursing it would be a while before I could. So the research began, and the questions haven't stopped.

So here I am now, one day before the big start--and to be honest--I'm a little nervous. I was SO excited all day long...but now that it's getting so close, I'm feeling nervous!!

On, and the final question: WHY am I doing this?
1. To cleanse my body. It just makes sense to me. Just like everything else needs a good rinse every now and then, I want one too. I've been feeling yucky lately and just want to start off fresh.
2. I want to challenge my mind and my body. For those of you who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you know what it's like to go without food and water for 24 hours, and would you agree that after 24 hours of fasting you feel a sense of accomplishment and a spiritual renewal? I know how to get that spiritually, and now I am seeking for that physically.
3. Let's be honest...the fact that you will lose a lot of weight in the meantime is fun too. Although, let it be known, THIS IS NOT WHY I AM DOING THE CLEANSE. I am not even counting on keeping the weight off, because I know it'll be mostly liquids that I'm losing and it'll probably come right back. So, again, not the reason that I'm doing it, but it'll be fun to experience as a by-product of the real reasons (#1, and #2).

So, that being said--we'll see ya tomorrow!

  2. Me too! Do tell all! Seems like all my siblings at some point have done cleanses. I must be the weak one. I'd like to do it after I'm done breastfeeding. And remind me to tell you about the foot bath/detoxifier next time we talk.
