"Wow Christine, you were running really fast today" -Paco
"oh yeah, i was doing fartleks." -me
"excuse me?" -Paco
Haha Fartleks, the official name of sprinting, walking, sprinting, walking. I did a buttload of them today. (haha pun intended). It was a GREAT workout. I did 3 miles this morning full of fartleks and came home way more tired than i do after a regular 3 mile run. I was impressed. My goal for the next 5K is to shave my time. These fartleks ought to do the trick! I don't think I'll ever let the word fartlek become a regular word in my vocabulary.
In front of our house there's a 1/2 mile loop around a school. It is a super convenient place for me to run because it's close, easily measurable, and I get to wave to my cute kids and husband in the windows as I pass. I love my little cheerleaders!! Thanks guys!!
I'm lovin' the blog posts! It's helping me up my game too. :)
ReplyDeleteI too am loving your posts, way to go Christine, you are AWESOME! I have never been a runner, but am strangely drawn to the idea that I would really like to be. I have a goal so someday run a marathon, right now I can't even run a mile so that'll be a few years probably. One of my main goals, (after this pregnancy) is to start running consistently so I'm grateful for your posts, they help add to my motivation. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen is your next 5K? You are a machine! I'm so impressed!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you're still working on the photography thing or not, but my photographer-sister in law lent me an awesome book that has made all greek camera talk english again. It's called Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. It's been a big help for me.
Holly: I could totally see you as a runner. It's a great mom activity (assuming you have a good double jogging stroller--that helps). I like to run in parks and then let the kids go loose afterwards :)
ReplyDeleteCindy: Next 5K is the end of May. Thanks for the book reference, I just went to my library website to reserve it! I can't wait to read it!! (oh and PS: 2-3 mile runs hardly makes me a machine...but thank you for the compliment!) haha
I'm adding to my vocabulary by reading your blog ~ fartleks ~ never heard of them before! When I first saw the title and read the first line I thought it was a Sammy or Jacob word for something!!! So thanks for adding to my vocabulary. :D
