So we made a spontaneous trip to LA this past weekend. We left Sunday morning about 4:30 am to head down there. My only disappointment was I was going to miss the 5k race that my friend Tessie was doing with her ward. So I mentioned it to my brother in law when we got there, his words excited me. "I heard rumor of a stake 5k here in a neighboring stake" no way!! I was SOO excited. He made some phone calls, and sure enough: Check-in was at 6:30 AM!! (for those of you who know me, 6:30 am is a long shot for me). But, I barely slept all night being that I was so excited for the race and nervous about waking up on time. We got there, checked in, and promptly at 7 am we were off on our journey. Chris, the one on the right, is my brother in law who has run super long distances before and was one of my motivators to begin running.
Paco and Chris both passed me within the first few seconds of the race, which was fine. It left me alone to focus on inner thoughts and my deep breathing that helps me finish these races. I finished in 34:16, somewhere about 138th place out of about 200 runners. I was pleased. Very pleased.
One of my most common questions is: "You can still run while you're pregnant, is that okay?" I simply smile and say, "Whatever exercise you were doing before pregnancy is safe during pregnancy". I have to admit I get even more excited when people do the "NO WAY, YOU"RE RUNNING AND YOU"RE 4 MONTHS PREGNANT?" reaction. It makes me laugh and encourages me to continue running.
SO for now, I say this is my last 5k for 2011, but if another one falls into my lap in the next few weeks I would probably dive in!
Way to go Super-Christine! You're amazing!
