I figure if I'm gonna have this blog, I might as well update it annually. So here's the latest in my world of running fun :)
I did a 5k Mud Run with Paco this summer and it was awesome. It was more playing than running and we loved it! It was so nice to actually share running with him, since usually he runs past me within the first few minutes and then waits for me at the finish line. Running with Paco (even if we do run at different speeds) is awesome. I told him that I think that having him run with me must feel the same way when someones spouse finally joins them at church after years of nagging. I enjoy running more when we do it together. And getting muddy along the way and doing it with a team of friends made it even cooler.
Then a month ago I did my first sprint triathlon. WHAT A BLAST!!! I will for sure be doing more of these! It was awesome, and way more fun than just running 3 miles. I have always loved swimming, and it was definitely my strongest part of the race. I flew through the 400 m in about 5 minutes and then waited for my friend who did the race with me. We then biked the 11 miles (my weakest part of the race) and she waited for me at the end. After that, we made it through the 3 mile run together. About 2 miles into it I started having really bad knee pain--something I've never experienced before. Then a God-send happened, and a man jogging by heard me say something and offered his ace bandage--so i took it. I put it on (while still jogging...heaven forbid I actually stop) and it seemed to help get me through the next mile or so. Finally, we ended the race. We finished in an hour and 45 minutes or so. We definitely took our time in the transition areas, and I was pretty chill on the biking part, and the jogging was slow. Next summer I'll try and do all three tri's and then work on my time, that would be fun. But yeah, I definitely feel like i've found my nitch there. It was a fun race and it challenged me both in training and on the day of the race.
A week later we had our stake 5k. Paco and I ran it together and I finished in about 31 minutes. I didn't have my watch, so i just ran to my internal rhythm and didn't concern myself about the time. But once I realized that I was so close to 30 minutes, I wished I had worn my watch so that i could break my record!
So our next race scheduled is the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot. Right now i'm planning on doing the 5k, but part of me wants to step it up a bit and try for the 10k. It makes me nervous because I've never ran 6 miles...ever...and it doesn't even sound fun. But I might do it just for the experience (and so that I can eat extra pie on thanksgiving day...that's really what it's about) ;) haha So we'll see. My friend Pricyla is gung ho on the 10k...and I'm definitely leaning toward it. But that would mean I have to start training. LOL
So that's where I'm at now. I've lost all my pregnancy weight now...finally! :) Technically I'm down to the same weight, but of course my body feels different after each baby. I am focusing on toning and endurance now. Once I get my single BOB stroller, I'll begin doing outdoor runs again while Jacob rides his bike. That's what I used to do with Sammy when Jacob was a baby. It'll be fun to have us be "exercising" together.
