Sweatin for Sammy 2012

This was an awesome race! I had a total blast (maybe a little too much fun?) My first 5k was technically a few weeks ago, but since it was a mud run with obstacles, I hardly counted it as a real 5k (even though we ran over 3 miles altogether). This race was flat, and I was excited! The race is a fundraiser for my friend's daughter, Samantha. We had about 150 running the 5k and I came in 2nd in my age group. I have no idea how many female 30-39 there were, so I have no idea how I really did. But my time was 31:09 which I was pleased with. I ran my fastest 5k at the gym the other day on a treadmill, sprinting in at 29:34. Literally, sprinting. I had that tread mill up to 9.5 mph so I could get it in under 30 minutes (which is my ultimate goal). I'm pretty sure there was smoke coming off my feet lol Back to the race. SO yeah, I was super excited for it. I gave everybody I saw high 5's during the race, or I yelled out to them cheering them on. I was leaping, jumping, playing, cheering, I just had fun. Meanwhile, I kept my slow, steady pace. I ran alone and without headphones. That's a whole 'nother conversation / debate: headphones vs no headphones. I'll save that for a later post. Anyway, I can't wait for the next race. I know for sure Paco and I will do the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving day, but hopefully we'll get some more in before that. Until then...it's back to the treadmill doing my indoor 5ks ;)
